This 1891 Colt single action army artillery alteration is a black powder frame antique. It should be saved and stored as an investment for a collector. These single action revolvers were issued to US government originally as Calvary model pistols, this one was issued with a 7-1/2” barrel, walnut grip, and blued.
It would have been used, and returned after service, refurbished and reissued. This revolver was altered with replacement parts, which were stamped as noted in John Kopecks book. These pistols were issued to artillery troops that would need to draw faster if under attack, and the 5-1/2” barrel was determined by testing to offer good accuracy and power. I’ve owned this firearm for years in my private collection and it has a tight action and lockup, distinctive 4 clicks when cocking the hammer C O L T! The Colt letter is included with the firearm, serious inquires only. If the ad is up, it is available. Not interested in trades, cash sale in person, at a public location like a local gun store, or Academy in Houston. Thanks for checking out my ad.
