This bunch is pretty well known for their $10,000 sniper rifles, and are now assembling a pretty good following with the REC 7 in both piston and direct impingement versions.  This offering is the latter, choosing the model that could be supported by battlefield pickup as regards a potential needed part. This carbine is LNIB – to me that means never fired outside the factory round.  LNIB does not mean one cannot improve on it.  It came with a MagPul MOE stock, meaning no place for a QD sling mount.  We replaced it with a B5 Systems SOPMOD Bravo unit which not only gives the QD, but much enhanced cheek weld.  If the shooter wants to use a single point sling, then ii’s best not to hook the sling to the stock.  So, on went a POF mount in place of the receiver end plate. Well, when we got all that together, it made the charging handle look cheesy.  So we got a matching AXTS Raptor ambi unit that looks business-like, and is much easier to deploy!

Rifle still didn’t look right!  When we put the B5 stock on it, the handgrip suddenly looked like it was from Playskool!  Plus it was slippery when it got wet. So, grip off, grip on – brand new Ergo.  Very secure grip in about any condition you can imagine. While we were messing around there, we got rid of the stock trigger guard in favor of a Phase 5 “WTG” which allows for gloves.  Texas brush dictates gloves many times. If one has to wear gloves how can he be expected to be very efficient with the stock bolt catch?  That was solved with the newly designed Geissele “Maritime Bolt Catch.”  Took nearly 5 weeks to get it direct from Geissele.  When you look at it, the improvement just shouts!

What didn’t shout was the trigger, for this level of firearm.  We love Geissele, and its sister company ALG Defense, who kind of mimics Geissele triggers at a much, much lower cost. Enter the ALG Defense ACT trigger. It works OK, (heavy pull - dry fire) and is included with this auction, but we believe this rifle is going to snooker some folks when you take it to the range.  We installed a Geissele BG-RF (Which stands for Brownell’s Geissele – Rapid Fire) It is exclusive through Brownells, so you can search for it on their site. Happily, you can also watch it perform on You Tube. Totally legal, and can fire conventionally, or do double taps, or – maybe empty your magazine, if you can afford much of that!!  The trigger comes with two springs (heavy and light pull), so if you’re intimidated by a fast fire capability (YUK, YUK) we’ll change it out for you (5 minutes).

That’s about the size of it, though we did add rail covers.  For complete specs you can visit Barrett’s web site.  Be sure as you look for this model you are specifying direct impingement.  Finally, regarding the changes: its easy today to pull stuff off and replace it.  On the other hand it’s a different story if each change is thought out and can be justified. We hope we did that in your mind, because at this level, these are investments, not just toys to beat up.
