Selling a Zzepair zipper repair kit for replacing the zipper slider/head on YETI coolers with an approximately 3/8" wide zipper. Most all of their soft sided coolers use this zipper. See image.
The kit includes the new zipper slider and 20 inches of black nylon cord to get you up and running. You will also receive a .PDF file with instructions.
If you still have your original Yeti pull handle you can attach it with the cord. Do not attach any metal rings or metal loops directly to this replacement head. Only use soft nylon or leather cord.
Zippers in general have the zipper pull attached on the top center of the head which means that the zipper is partly pulled and partly pushed. This replacement head has mounting points for zipper pulls at each end where they belong. Single zipper pulls are more convenient but they can also age these zippers prematurely. A zipper works better and lasts longer with a pull on each end.
If your zipper has 3 or more consecutive teeth that are missing then this is not likely to work. Replacement teeth will be available soon. The gap between 3 missing teeth is too wide and the new head will tend to walk right off the zipper at that spot where the 3 teeth are missing.
If your cooler has a lid(Hopper/Flip) and you have 2 or more consecutive teeth missing at a corner of the lid then this is not likely to work for the same reason. The head of the zipper will walk off of the zipper at that spot in the corner where the 2 teeth are missing. You could still try it.
You will need to wax your zipper before attaching this new head. You don't need fancy zipper wax. A cheap stick of chapped lip balm sold at the grocery store checkout works fine plus it's food safe.
Optional zipper stop:
If your zipper is missing the hard plastic U-shaped stop at either end you will need to make a new end-stop. An end-stop is required to prevent the new head from sliding off of the end of the zipper teeth. The best way to add a new stop is to pierce the cooler just above and below the zipper and then run a ziptie through it. The ideal place for the ziptie is actually just before the teeth begin. There is a trade off in doing this. Two tiny holes up near the top will leave your cooler 99% watertight but at the moment it's not watertight at all. The holes could also be sealed up with food grade silicone.
Guarantee: While this kit usually does the trick there will be some zippers that are just too far out of spec to get working again. It depends entirely on the condition of your zipper, the alignment of the teeth, how hard it's been pulled/forced before, etc. I've seen totally blown out looking zippers restored to like new and I've seen near perfect looking zippers refuse to work again. You just can't tell by looking. No zipper is perfect including the original one. While Yeti might not take returns I will take any return within 30 days. Just send it back for a full refund. Your only real risk is the time spent to try this.
