The Russians developed the SKS in response to the overwhelming success of the Garrand in WWII. But it was a time of Cold War not Hot War . . . And shortly thereafter, Kalashnikov developed the AK47. This made the SKS expendable to the Aparatchiks who were much more interested in firepower than accuracy.
The TULA factory where the SKS was manufactured, was dismantled and moved to China.
For the first 2 years Russian advisors taught the Chinese the Russian language and how to assemble the SKS which at first 2,000 were made of Russian parts, then manufacturing began at what became the Arsenal 26 factory. The next 212,000 SKS’s were manufactured WITHOUT any arsenal markings from Russia or China. Fully matching numbers and a serial number that was 4, 5, or 6 digits AND NO ARSENAL STAMPS . . . are the identifying features of the GHOST GUN. This gun is serial number 188681. All matching. Original sling. Correct sling attachment points for the ghost gun. And the wood used was different than the typical SKS from either Russia or China. A lot of these were exported to the Albania civil where it was common to adorn the rifle stock with initials or name of the owner. It’s part of its history so better saved than refinished.
