Made by Springfield Armory in 1901, this is a very clean example of an unaltered Krag battle rifle. The 30"barrel retains 90+% of the original bluing; other parts have faded bluing and a grayish patina. The wood is good, with clear military cartouche markings. The bore is clean, with sharp rifling. It is US Caliber .30/.30-40 Krag cartridgeTo the best of my knowledge, it has the original sling. May have seen service in the Philippine Insurrection following the Spanish-American War. Overall a very nice example of the rifle that preceded the 1903 Springfield.
