Hey yall. Listing my fusil gras mle 1874 infantry rifle. I've been told by my wife that I can't have a huge collection so I've decided to part with this and keep my cavalry carbine.
It's an 1878 model with the M80 update, single shot bolt action in 11×59mmR gras. There are subcaliber adapters available that let you shoot .410 bore shotgun shells through it. You get some pretty weird looks shooting clays out of the air with a rifle that's nearly 6 feet long with the bayonet on it.
The bore is in really good shape, it was reblued at some point. The stock has not been refinished, just cleaned and had 3 coats of boiled linseed oil applied. It's hard to capture in photos without adequate lighting but the grain is rich and deep red.
The bolt is in the white which is correct for the time. The bayonet is also 1878 made and in excellent condition, clip and release work fine for it and it has the sheath. It'll be extra on top of the rifle if the buyer wants it. No rear sight sadly, the Ethiopians weren't fans of them. In one picture you can see Ethiopian on the barrel, no idea what it says as it's not amharic but some other Ethiopian language, pretty cool though. It does have the cleaning rod which is super cool, pretty hard to find those. Currently trying to find someone with one of these with a rear sight so I can make them, if you buy it and I can make that happen I'll ship you one for sure.
Looking for best offers and trades, mostly interested in other milsurp stuff, antiques, flintlocks, cowboy action, and takedowns, let me know what you've got! My current thing I'm looking for is a remington #4 rolling block .22 and a remington model 12 slide action .22, I'd trade this and maybe some cash towards one of those.
I've got a bunch more pictures available on request.
