The H-D Military model was produced from 1945-1950. Our pistol (serial number 180445) is likely from the 1946 production run. This model has the 4.5 inch barrel and a 10 round magazine with a heel release.
The rear sight is an adjustable, rectangular notch sight. The front is a fixed, serrated blade. At some point during the life of the pistol, some white was applied to the near side of the front sight to aid in target acquisition.
The pistol is single action with an exposed hammer. There is an external safety on the left side of the frame that functions as intended. The trigger is light with a very nice, clean break.
The grips are two piece checkered wood panels. The grips do show some honest wear but we see no chips or cracks We would grade them as Very Good.
The blued finish appears to be the original finish with most of the finish remaining intact. There are a few light scratches and some areas of thinning finish, as would be expected of a pistol of this age. We would still rate the finish as Very Good.
The bore is good and the barrel remains bright. This model has no crown on the muzzle but the muzzle is in very good condition with no nicks or chips.
Overall, this is an outstanding example of a popular, vintage rimfire pistol. The owner has it reasonable priced and it’s ready to join your collection.
