The Gen 6 lineup, starting with the G17, G19, and G45, features a major overhaul of the, optics-ready system, ergonomics, and internals.

Here is what is new with the Glock Optic Ready System (ORS) and the Gen 6 platform:

1. New Optics Ready System (ORS)

Direct-to-Slide Mounting: The legacy MOS (Modular Optic System) is replaced by a new system that allows optics to sit deeper into the slide for a lower bore axis.
Polymer Adapter Plates: Instead of metal plates, the Gen 6 ORS uses specially designed, thin polymer plates. These act as a shock-absorbing "crush washer," improving durability and helping the optic resist the shear forces of the slide cycle.

Wider Compatibility: The system includes plates that support RMR, Delta Point Pro, and C-More footprints.

2. Ergonomic and External Changes

RTF6 Texture: A new, refined grip texture combines the aggressive, sandpaper-like RTF2 with the raised squares of the RTF4, offering a balance of comfort and control.

Front Slide Serrations: Deeper, more aggressive, and angled, designed for better manipulation under stress.

Textured Thumb Rest: An enlarged, textured thumb rest (or "gas pedal") is molded into the frame forward of the slide stop.

3. Internal and Functional Improvements

Flat-Faced Trigger: A flat-faced trigger shoe comes standard, designed for more consistent finger placement.

Single-Stage Recoil Spring: In a return to earlier, simpler designs, the 9mm Gen 6 models (including the G17) use a single-stage recoil spring assembly for improved durability.

4. Compatibility and Logistics

Holster Compatibility: Most existing Gen 5 holsters (G17, G19, G45) remain compatible with Gen 6 models.

Barrel Incompatibility: Gen 6 barrels have new geometry and are not compatible with older generation Glocks.

The Gen 6 represents a significant, user-driven evolution for Glock, moving toward a "stock" pistol that includes features previously only available through aftermarket, custom modifications.
